About A Penny From My Sister
When Cindy and Mickey have a sleepover at Grammy Gale’s house at the sea shore, Grammy Gale lets them explore all the attic treasures she has collected since she, herself, was a child. When Cindy and Mickey discover something they never knew about Grammy Gale, she tells them a touching story about her childhood with her sister and about a very special bond between them--a connection that has continued throughout Grammy Gale’s whole life.
A Penny From My Sister evolved from the author’s life-long connection to her own twin sister. Peter Catalanotto’s vivid watercolor and pencil illustrations bring to life the warmth of summer and the forever love of family.
About the Author
Letty Sustrin taught for 38 years with her twin sister, Sheila, in Brentwood, NY. They created the beloved children’s picture book series, The Teacher Who Would Not Retire. After Sheila’s death, Letty found that when she needed her sister most, she would find a penny in the most unlikely places. This led to the creation of the story, A Penny From My Sister. Letty continues to reach out to children and schools through author presentations and mentoring programs. Her wheaten-colored Scottish Terrier, Honeybelle, is also a major part of Letty’s life. They are perfect companions and, of course, they enjoy finding pennies together!
